Frequently Asked Questions about BYF
Q. My child cannot attend equipment day. Can they still register and get equipment at a later time?
A. Yes. We accept registrations up until the last day of August. Your child can get their equipment at one of the BYF trailers parked in the BCA (Bemidji Community Arena) parking lot at the first practice they can attend. They will be placed on the team that is next in line for additions based on draft order. Please use the online form for all registrations made up to August 31.
Q. Where does my child store their equipment and gear?
A. All players are issued a large gear bag. Gear should be transported to and from home/practice. Currently we cannot provide storage or locker room space for players.
Q. How does my child get to practice on school days? How do they get home?
A. Parents are encouraged to establish carpools from the elementary schools. Parents are responsible for picking up your child after practice. (Please be on time).
Q. Where does BYF have practice and games?
A. Practices are located in the grassy fields located just south of the BCA parking lot. Games are played on the BHS varsity fields located on the east side of the BHS Campus. On game day, kids will be dropped off at the locker-room and then walk over to the game fields after they are dressed.
Q. Are there scholarships or other means of paying for BYF for my child?
A. Yes! We have $75.00 scholarships available for qualifying children and the application and qualifications can be found on the Parents/Players page of the website. We are also able to make other financial concessions under other circumstances. Please contact us by email if you have a question about scholarships and payment.
Q. How are kids divided up into teams? Can I request that my kid be on a specific team?
A. Based on observed athletic abilities, size, and speed during the 1st week of skills camp, along with prior experience in the league for 4th and 5th graders, our coaches hold a ‘Blind Draft’, overseen by BYF admin, to ensure that we have done our best to create teams that are even in strength, size and coach-ability. Therefore, for the sake of league integrity and spirit of the game we seek to promote, parents cannot make coaching or team requests for their child. Exceptions made are for those who have a parent as a coach and/or twins/siblings in the same grade who want to be placed on the same team. If this is a concern for you please contact us directly by phone or in person to discuss.
